Astrophotography by Anthony Ayiomamitis

Image of the Week

The summer solstice represents the sun's highest point in our skies and is a feat accomplished on or around June 21st of each year. We also enjoy days which are much longer than the corresponding nights and observe little motion of the sun from day to day. In contrast, the sun reaches the lowest point in the sky during winter solstice six months later on or about December 21st of each year where nights are longer than days. Of course, each spring and fall we have the equinoxes when the day and night are of equal duration at twelve hours each.
